The familiar Jet d'eau spouts a column of lake water as high as 450 feet in the air, and on a clear day you can see the Mont-Blanc.
Originally a simple security valve at the Coulouvrenière hydraulic factory, this water fountain has, over the years, grown to be the symbol of Geneva.
A symbol of the Geneva watch industry of world renown, the famous flower clock, located at the edge of the Jardin Anglais (English Garden) since 1955, is a masterpiece of technology and floral art.
One hundred fifty seven steps lead to the summit of the cathedral's north tower and to a fabulous panorama overlooking the city and the lake.
Constructed between 1929 and 1936 to house the League of Nations, the Palais des Nations became the headquarters of the United Nations in 1946 when the former organisation was dissolved. The vast wooded park overlooking the lake, where it is located, was donated by the City of Geneva.
ANNECY (30 minutes from Archamps)
Annecy in Haute Savoie in France is a beautiful city where a castle towers over the lakeside old town with colorful houses, churches, parks, and popular outdoor markets.
- The Lake of Annecy (French Lac d'Annecy)
- The canals
- The Old town and its Churches
It is the second largest lake in France, it is known as "Europe's cleanest lake" because of strict environmental regulations introduced in the 1960s. The lake was formed about 18,000 years ago, at the time the large alpine glaciers melted. It is fed by many small rivers from the surrounding mountains.
A lot of the route is along the cobbles of the old town, his walk reveals the River Thiou, one of the shortest rivers in France (5 km). It transports the waters of the lake to the River Fier, a tributary of the Rhöne. The Thiou became a centre for crafts activities and provided power for the industries which developed there from the 19th century.
The picturesque old town is located on the banks of the Thiou River and Lake Annecy, one of the largest and arguably most spectacular natural lakes in France. The castle Château d'Annecy guards over the old town. Although Annecy has several museums and interesting churches. Much of the old town of Annecy has only very narrow streets and alleys that are open to pedestrians only. It is a great town to explore on foot with many interesting small shops in addition to the restaurants, bars, ice-cream shops, kiosks, bakeries, and souvenir stands.
